Teide, a dormant volcano that is Spain's tallest peak and the highest point above sea level in the islands of the Atlantic. Climate: The Canary Islands, of which Tenerife is the largest, enjoy a remarkably mild climate. They are located in the Atlantic Ocean, just north of the Tropic of Cancer, a short distance from the coasts of Morocco and Western Sahara, in a stretch of sea where a cool current flows. They are also subject to the trade winds, which blow from the north east. Along the coasts, the daily average temperature ranges from 18°C in January and February to 26°C in July, August, and September. You can visit the Canary Islands throughout the year, since they have a very mild climate. In late autumn and in winter, although temperatures are spring-like some cloudy days can occur, as well as a bit of wind and rain. Northern European tourists often arrive this time of year to escape the Nordic winter as they'll find many sunny and pleasant days. May to mid-October is preferable for a beach holiday, although the sea is still cool in May, but will warm up gradually in the following months.
