Climate: Laucala Island is just off the South Eastern coast of the Vanua Levu Islands of Fiji where the cool season is relatively dry, especially on these small and flat islands. Although Fiji has its drier and wetter months, there is really no bad time to visit this island paradise. When you hear the phrase Wet Season you might be worried that a visit to Fiji will involve waterproof jackets and umbrellas rather than swimsuits and sunscreen. However, the wet season doesn’t mean four months of unpleasant dampness. There will be sporadic rainstorms throughout this time of year, but they only last a short time and they are typically followed by sunshine. It is similar to the climate of South Florida in the summer time. The silver lining is that these brief showers can be a refreshing break from the sultry heat and humidity in the afternoon. In fact, there are a lot of advantages to visiting during the so-called wet season. The air smells fresh, the vegetation is lush and green, and the sweet-smelling flowers will be in bloom. There will also be fewer crowds and Fiji will usually reward you with incredible special offers on flights, activities and resort stays. The temperatures are pleasant all year round and the water is always warm and clear. During their winter months of July and August the temperatures are moderate and there is less rain. However, these are the peak season months in Fiji so they may be the most crowded. If you visit between November and April be prepared for hotter temperatures and higher humidity. March is the rainiest month of the year, while also being the hottest month of the summer. Many beach go-ers prefer these hotter temperatures. For others, the cooling breezes coming from the South Pacific Ocean will give welcome relief. If you prefer things a little cooler, the best time to visit is between April and September. It will still be plenty warm enough to swim, dive, snorkel, and sunbathe, but the sun will not burn with the same strong intensity as other times of the year. The trade winds in Fiji come mostly from the south east and they are a pleasant natural air conditioner. During the May to November period the winds are moderate and during the winter season of November to April they can be stronger. Cyclones can sometimes affect the Fiji islands in the summer months (mainly between February and mid-March). However, these storms usually do not pose much of a danger because the usual routes are too far south.
