Climate: The Cinque Terre, meaning Five Lands is a coastal area within Liguria, in the northwest of Italy. It lies in the west of La Spezia Province, and comprises five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The climate for which Italy is famous, that is, mild and sunny, is actually found only in coastal and lowland areas of the centre-south and on the coast of Liguria in the north-west where the Cinque Terre are. The coldest month is January with an average maximum temperature of 10°C. November is the wettest month and July is the driest month. The Mediterranean climate is characterized by mild, rainy winters and hot, sunny summers, a bit muggy but also tempered by the breeze. Autumn is often rainy, especially from late September or October onwards.
